since the world is flat, and US is where ideas are generated for many times, and many times chinese internet companies started to learn from US, the so called copy-to-china model, so many people both in china and US thinks that chinese internet guys are only doing copy-to-china;
however, this is not true; the chinese it companies are actually doing a lot of innovation, some based on US ideas and made many changes, some others ideas and products, which might probably not found in us as well;
starting this post, i’ll start a series of post called ‘china tech innovation’;
this first post here is to introduce the big player tencent’s web app store by web qq;
this is where you can see ithttp://web3.qq.com/

the features:
1. with Tencent’s own long list of applications like IM client QQ, email, microblog, brower, qzone space, map, whether, games, music, video, search and so on to cover almost all basic service to users on web very well;
and indeed, it has nearly 1 billion users.
2. with Tencent’s qq open platform and web app store, that 3rd parties can develop all kinds of applications in the web;
and now there’re really a lot of applications there, many popular web sites have developed their features as web applications on the tencent’s qq open platform;
so, now any user in china just need to open the web3.qq.com and you can do almost everything you want to in china.
arguments:
1. well, you can say the idea is from facebook’s open platform, is from apple’s app store, or from web os ideas that has been there for long;
however, one thing is tencent did their innovation and make a really web app store and web open platform, that make a true web os;
and the idea of open platform and app store is actually there in china for almost 10 years during the SP stage of china mobile, when china mobile provided APIs to 3rd party companies so that they can develop all kinds of service to china mobile users;
2. what’s the difference between facebook open platform and tencent web qq? because in facebook all the apps are there as well;
the thing is facebook is all based on network, you’ve to login to use all features,
however, many users users do not want to login in order to listen to radio, music, play games, watch videos;
while tencent’s web qq is all about open web qq and everything is there;
interesting? disagree?
welcome comments, and keep an eye on me, i’ll continue china tech innovation topic, covering those from big players and small startups, probably bring something that USA guys do not know about china.
